"Loren brought his artistry and passion for music to BGSU. There are many great players available to come in for a residency. I am looking for the person that makes it about the music and the students. That was Loren."
-David Bixler, Director of Jazz, Bowling Green State University
“I invited Loren Stillman to teach a masterclass at the Jazz Department of Music College in Nuremberg (Germany). Not only is he a world class saxophone virtuoso, he is an amazing teacher as well. Students of all levels were able to benefit from his wisdom about the saxophone and music in General.“
-Alex Bayer, bassist and educator
“Loren has been a fantastic teacher and mentor to me since I first met him in 2017. I’ve learned many valuable musical and life lessons from him that I will carry with me always. Loren is excellent at presenting both basic and detailed subjects in lessons. He is also a very open-minded teacher which was one of my favorite aspects of studying with him. If you have the opportunity to take lessons with Loren, I would highly recommend and encourage it!”
-Ross Strauser, University of Montana
“I stumbled upon Loren's music during my early years in music high school. He has since been one of my biggest musical influences ever, I even wrote my exam essay about him as a improviser and composer. Therefore we met and I wasn't surprised that he isn't just a great musical mind, he's an extraordinary teacher as well. His deep musical understanding in combination with his great techniques made me profit a lot from my lessons with him. I'll never regret to have reached out for him, in order to get classes and to get to know him. I'd highly recommend any modern saxophone player or musician of any kind to do likewise. Loren is a great teacher and a great person.”
-Julian Ritter, Köln Germany, saxophonist - composer - educator
“I have taken a few lessons with Loren years ago and they continue to influence and inspire my practicing - he was able to translate what had inspired me in his playing and composing into clear and thoughtful exercises and methods. His way of approaching the saxophone and the art of practicing continues to guide my playing and research on the instrument.”
-Charlotte Greve, Brooklyn NY, freelance musician and educator
“Loren Stillman is an outstanding musician and a brilliant teacher. I had the opportunity to have some lessons with him while I was in Brooklyn, while I was studying at the New York Jazz Academy: it was really a mind-opening experience. I would recommend him to any kind of student, from beginner to advanced. Thank you Loren!”
-Simone Garino, Turin Italy, Professional musician and music teacher
“In 2007 I did my first masters in pedagogy in Switzerland and wanted to stop without finishing the second one. I got the chance to study abroad for my master in performing arts for which I got in contact with you - improv, composition, sound and a Lot of skills I really appreciated and still do. We found a way to meet regularly which inspired me on musical, compositional and personal Levels. Having a Mentor as friend or a friend as Mentor never got clearly separated what made this experience unique and a big step in the evolution as musician.”
-Gregor Frei, Zurich CH
"I was fortunate to participate at a week-long jazz camp with fellow students from the 'Danish National Academy of Music' with Loren Stillman as one of the instructors. Loren is an amazing (!!!) saxophonist and teacher who's able to relate to and understand the problems/difficulties you face as a student of music in a very supportive way. Both regarding the aspects of learning your instrument very well but also all the personal difficulties you face when learning music - which makes his teaching very meaningful and thoughtful. Since the jazz camp I've had skype lessons with Loren as a follow-up on some of the things we discussed - definitely not the last lesson for me!"
-Christian Holm-Svendsen, saxophonist, Copenhagen, student at Danish National Academy of Music
